Level 1: Build
Level 1: Build — Production Security & Performance Middleware
Apply production hardening layers across Express and MongoDB.
User Story:
As an SRE Lead, I require our services to withstand traffic spikes, DDoS attempts, and zero-downtime rolling deploys.
Key Deliverables & Specifications:
- Security middleware: Helmet (CSP, HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options)
- Distributed Rate Limiting via Redis sliding window
- Graceful Shutdown handling SIGTERM / SIGINT without dropping in-flight requests
- MongoDB connection pool tuning (`maxPoolSize: 50`, `minPoolSize: 10`)
Implementation Roadmap:
1. **Apply Security Headers**: Use `app.use(helmet())` with customized CSP.
2. **Configure Pool**: Set Mongoose connection pool options.
3. **Handle SIGTERM**: Intercept OS signals and call `server.close()` and `mongoose.disconnect()`.
